Renewable Energy
Boston Capital Energy (BCE) specializes in the financial structuring and monetization of tax credits for solar, wind and other renewable energy transactions benefiting from federal tax benefits.
BCE is an affiliate of Boston Capital, a global leader in finance and investment and an innovator in the field of tax credit investments. For 32 years, Boston Capital has invested institutional and individual capital totaling $4.8 billion in multifamily housing through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC: IRC Sect. 42) while at the same time reducing tax liability for those investors. BCE offers its developer partners and clients access to equity capital through the monetization of Production Tax Credits (PTC: IRC Sect. 45), while affording institutional investors a combination of tax credits, passive losses, cash flow and a residual interest in solar, wind and other renewable energy transactions.
The Production Tax Credit (PTC)
By partnering with BCE, developers will realize the maximum benefit from the PTC, which allows the federal government to sponsor a number of renewable energy resource programs without directly allocating federal tax dollars. The PTC results in a reduction in federal tax revenue rather than an expenditure of federal resources, thus the strong support the PTC has within the U.S. Congress.
As part of the energy bill signed into law in August of 2005, Congress created a two-year extension of the PTC, which will allow producers of alternative energy sources such as wind farms to raise funds from private institutional investors for the construction of wind farms. This extension of the PTC is a strong vote of confidence by the government in renewable energy and has resulted in a marked increase of investment in the wind energy industry.
